Overview

We’re seeking a part-time WordPress Developer to build, enhance, and maintain WordPress sites for mission-driven organizations. You’ll focus on clean implementation, performance, security hygiene, accessibility, and dependable release practices.

Responsibilities

Implement and maintain WordPress websites across client portfolios (new builds and iterative enhancements)
Develop and customize themes and site components with an emphasis on maintainability and quality
Troubleshoot technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and deliver durable fixes
Optimize site speed, stability, and user experience using practical performance best practices
Maintain security updates and manage dependencies with minimal disruption and clear release notes
Support content workflows and ensure CMS configurations enable consistent publishing and governance
Document implementations and provide lightweight handoff guidance for clients and internal teams

Requirements

Strong WordPress development experience (custom themes, templates, hooks, and WP fundamentals)
Comfort with PHP fundamentals and WordPress coding standards
Solid front-end skills (HTML/CSS/JS) and responsive implementation experience
Experience with modern build tooling and workflows (e.g., Vite/Webpack, npm scripts, bundling)
Performance optimization skills (caching strategy, asset optimization, Core Web Vitals basics)
Security hygiene experience (updates, hardening basics, plugin risk evaluation, least-privilege mindset)
Accessibility implementation experience and ability to remediate common issues (WCAG-aligned)
SEO fundamentals and technical implementation familiarity (structured content, metadata hygiene, performance)
Ability to evaluate plugins critically and implement custom functionality when plugins are insufficient
